This was our first trip to Las Vegas.  We spent most of our time at the convention center for CES 2018, and what a freaking show it is.  There’s just no way to take it all in.  We weren’t terribly adventurous in eating out, but we came across a few cool places.

As we left Cosmopolitan, a sign across the street caught my eye. “Sexy steakhouse and cocktail lounge” it said. We didn’t end up there, but after some searching we came up with Rx Boiler Room.

It was a great day at CES 2018. There was a dress made out of e-ink, a machine to fold your clothes for you, an Alexa enabled + butt warming toilet seat, and the show stopper – the Nokia 3310. Aptiv and Lyft gave us a driverless ride from the convention center to the Venetian hotel. At the Venetian, we ran into Mr. Tech Tips himself from Linus Tech Tips. We eventually wandered through a few of the big casinos, lost a few dollars, and ended up at Mandalay Bay.

Rx Boiler Room rocks steampunk styling.  Personally, I’m a little torn on this.  Not on the steampunk, but it just didn’t mesh up with a fancier restaurant.  We’re both a little picky, and the menu we found online was miles from the menu they gave us.  Turned out that the article that convinced us to come here was a bit over two years old.  Whoops.

I generally don’t eat ribs, because I don’t like fighting with the bones.  The braised short rib I ended up with was so well made, I could look at it with a glare and just watch it fall apart like warm butter.  It was utterly delightful.  The sweet potato that went with it was equally good.  A few chips split the items, and the chips are about as bland as possible.  That might be by design, to let the flavors of the ribs and sweet potato shine through.  I still don’t eat normal on-the-bone ribs, but I you can bet that I’ll be back here the next time I’m in Vegas for a show.
